GPS Navigation Makes Finding Your Way Easy
GPS or Global Positioning Systems are available to consumers since 1985 for finding your location and all kinds of navigation. GPS systems designed by the Defense Department for the U.S. Military for accurate positioning and location. A series of satellites provide signals picked up by GPS receivers allow the GPS units to lock on to the signals giving the military ability to triangulate precise locations. The signals can be received under any condition day or night. The GPS systems identify location a number of ways altitude, latitude and longitude. They will overlay location with maps for navigation.
Early on the Defense Department setup a fixed offset to the correct location. And during war time the offset would be changed. Early consumer GPS units used what we called a differential receiver to correct the offset in the location.
Today the Defense Department uses a newer version Global Positioning System on secure frequencies. This now allows consumers to use unobstructed the old GPS network for accurate navigation. For travel a number of ways. By land, sea, air and even by foot.

Another new GPS devise lets you keep a watchful eye on Rover, a dog collar designed to give you a warning if Rover wonders away from where you want him to be. Trucking and Taxi Companies with large numbers of vehicles are using GPS to track the locations of all their people.

Automotive navigators come with build in points of interest like attractions, gas, restaurants, shopping and a number of other special interests.
You can be rerouted around construction along your route to keep you from being stuck in traffic.
One of the GPS manufactures Garmin provides a user interface that is second to none. Very user friendly and simple to set up and understand and some of their models when you turn them on you hear (where to?). How cool is that?
